HEAT

HEAT - High-Risk Environment Awareness Training

Do you travel frequently for work? Or are you going to be deployed in a country outside Europe or North America?

Our flagship offering is the 3-day HEAT course, where you’ll learn to assess relevant risks and take appropriate countermeasures. Although the “A” in HEAT stands for Awareness, our courses aim to achieve much more than just awareness. We believe the most important outcome is for you to adopt concrete behavioral changes that enhance your safety while traveling. Awareness—your attention—is part of it, but many critical situations can be avoided by actively taking responsibility for your travel safety. Should you still find yourself in a critical situation, you’ll also learn how to handle gunfire, terrorist attacks, severe bleeding, hostage situations, traffic accidents, and much more.

The course is developed by a team of experts with extensive experience in travel safety and training across governmental organizations, NGOs, and private companies. With their diverse backgrounds and expertise, they’ve created a course concept focused on establishing a mindset that enables participants to assess and act on risks during international travel. The course content and structure are based on a sharp prioritization of what truly matters—either because it statistically poses a real risk or because it represents a fear factor that hinders individuals in performing their work.

The course will be conducted in English unless all participants are comfortable with Danish.

HEAT TRAINING WITH A GENUINE IMPACT

AWARENESS

Our HEAT courses raise awareness of travel security for anyone traveling outside Europe and North America. A fundamental understanding of risk analysis is a key element of our programs.

RISK REDUCING BEHAVIOUR

We don’t just increase your awareness of risks. We take pride in helping you improve your travel security by creating concrete and relevant learning experiences tailored to your travel activities and needs—so we achieve a behavioral impact on your safety and peace of mind during your journey.

CRITICAL INCIDENTS

If your travels take you to post-conflict areas, regions with armed conflict, or areas outside state control, you must be prepared to handle most critical incidents. Both physical and psychological aspects of your safety are covered.

TARGET AUDIENCE

A HEAT course is relevant for you if your travels outside Europe and North America involve risks. Of course, the regions you visit matter, but often the reason for your travel and the tasks you will perform are even more important. This could include trips to conflict zones, journeys where you cannot rely on local authorities for security, or destinations with fragile political or security conditions.

The typical participant works for an NGO, as a journalist, photographer, or consultant.

Most of our HEAT participants are highly experienced travelers. Many have been on numerous high-risk trips before attending our HEAT course. Even if you have extensive travel experience, the course is still highly relevant for you.
